Remembering The Greatest Show Man

One of the greatest and most influential actors and filmmakers in the history of cinema, Raj Kapoor left his charisma in the Bollywood film industry. 'Social Mela' remembers Raj Saheb on his 31st death anniversary.

The evergreen songs like 'pyaar hua ikraar hua' and 'Ramayya Vastawaiyya' keeps him alive in our hearts. The charm of Raj Saheb still blossoms the environment whenever his song plays nearby.

The legendary actor took his first step at Bollywood in 1935’s movie Inquilab at the age of 10. His big break came with the lead role in Neel Kamal opposite Madhubala in 1947.  In 1948, at the age of 24, he established his own studio, R. K. FILMS, and became the youngest film director of his time, making his directorial debut with the film Aag. His work, enthusiasm and qualities which he put on his work took the industry to the next level.

From his evergreen films like Anari, Mera Naam Joker, Barsaat, Sangam, Jaagtey Raho, and Shree 420 to one of the most lovable songs of that era 'Main kya karoon Ram' has left lots of memory in the hearts of the people of 20th century.

'Sab kuch khuda se maang liya tujhko maang kar… uthte nahi hai haath mere iss dua ke baad',  The way his passionate dialogues like this touched our souls, Raj Saheb’s fame spread worldwide. His films ‘Aag’, ‘Shree 420’, and ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’ had a patriotic theme which has boost the country to celebrate the newly independent India and inspired filmmakers to be patriots. He received many awards for his dedication and an accolade that is the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, is named after Raj Kapoor. His performance in Awaara was ranked as one of the top 10 greatest performances of all time by TIME MAGAZINE.

The Government of India honoured him with the PADMA BHUSHAN in 1971 for his contributions to Arts and India’s highest award in cinema, the DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD in 1987.

One thing which he gained the most in his entire career was respect, and he will be respected forever. 'pyaar lene ki cheez nahi hai ji... dene ki cheez hai.'

With the heart filled with emotions, he will be missed forever.
