Justin Bieber’s face paralyzed after rare disorder diagnosis

The 28-year-old singer on Friday revealed that he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which has left him paralyzed on one side of his face. Bieber shared the news after he was forced to postpone the tour dates quoting health concerns.

Bieber’s facial paralysis is caused by a neurological disorder caused by the varicella-zoster virus. The diagnosis is the most recent on the list of the medical issues that Bieber has revealed, including Lyme disease, chronic anxiety, and Epstein Barr. In his three minutes video, Bieber mentions “It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear—my facial nerves—and has caused my face to have paralysis”. He said that he would now be spending his time resting and taking good care of himself so that he could get back to what he did. He also assured fans that his face would get back to normal and that he has been doing facial exercises during the recovery process.

What is Ramsay Hunt syndrome and how could this be treated?

RHS is a rare neurological disorder that is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same type of virus that causes chickenpox in children and herpes zoster in adults. The previously inactive virus is reactivated in cases of this syndrome and affects the facial nerve. This disorder is the second most common cause of atraumatic facial paralysis. The majority of people with RHS happen to recover completely, though the duration of the disease varies. Patients suffering from it are given anti-inflammatory and antiviral medications. However, for some, it could take longer than usual. Sometimes the treatment could include physical treatment or even steroids.

To ensure that the disorder is treated one should visit a doctor as soon as they start to notice any kind of symptoms.
