Lipstick under my burkha : A movie they don’t want you to see

Written by Arsalan Rahman

An Industry which is filled with un-realistic larger than life flicks with no ground reality what so ever. Audience hungry for a good and sensible piece of art are served with the rotting pieces of romantic clichés and humourless cheap adult innuendos.

Then comes a movie like LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA which takes up a sensitive and bold topic and is presented to the audience with the very raw nature of the story.  Written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava this bold and rebellious flick is uncommon take on a very common issue of gender inequality and independence.

Lipstick under my burkha tells a story of 4 small town women who want to shake of their physical, cultural and social burkhas and break away into a life they have fantasied about. The burkha here is not the camouflagic piece of cloth worn by Muslim women but a metaphor for the boundaries and restriction enforced upon women.
